Thanks to Wellesley College’s Mary Elvira Stevens Fellowship, I will be able to travel and conduct field interviews with local craftsmen and women in Western China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Azerbaijan, researching the impact of changing socio-economic realities on the craftmen's work and traditions.
Beijing - Xian and surrounding countryside - (deviation to Anhui for traditional ghost theater performance) - Urumuqi - Shihezi - Yining - Tekesi County - Altai (border with Kazakhstan) - Qinghe - Back to Beijing for departures - Bishkek - Issyk Kul spin - Bishkek - Mountains - Jalalabad - Osh - cross into Uzbekistan - Andijan - Marghilan - Rishtan - Ferghana - Khokhand - Tashkent - Bukhara - Samarkand - Khiva - Tashkent - cross into Tajikistan - Dushanbe - Kurgon Tebe - Kulyob - Dushanbe - Baxdadt - Fann Mountains - Back to the Ferghana Valley - Istarphshan - Khujand - Kanibadum - Dushanbe - (vacation with mi dad) - flying into Iran - Tehran - Qazvin - Alamut - Ardog - Kashan - Isphahan - Shiraz - Ferrozabad - Yazd - Tehran - Beijing. so much left to see. its nice to be left with some dreaming
